Now How the Dress and Blouse Evolved

Image
I already wrote this blog and didn't save as I was editing pictures and I lost it. LOL I just love when that happens. I just got the crestless pumpkin pie baking that the kids begged me to make so now I can redo this! I had the velor dress that is nicely embellished but it was a too big. I need an occassion to wear it before I worked on it to make it fit me. So the other day Randy and I were invited to attend a fundraiser formal dinner at the CSU Ballroom. Well with the weather a little chill I need a light jacket to wear because the dress has spaghetti straps. I took the dress in on the side seam, crisscrossed the straps at the back to take up the slack and I added a silver ruffle to the top of the bodice at neckline to tie in the silver jacket I made to wear with the dress. With the silver blouse I cut off about 9 to 10 inches, turned up to form a casing that I added elastic to so it make the jacket more fitted. I added 1/2" black ribbon to tie the jacket close with a bow. W...

Dress and Blouse

This is how it all started. My husband and I were invited to a fundraiser for Haiti. It is a formal affair so guess what I get to dress up. LOL I had the velvet dress that was too big for me but since I sew that really isn't a problem but I need a reason to put the time into making it fit. Well with the weather getting cooler I would need a small jacket since the dress has spaghetti straps. I have silver blouse that would work as a small jacket. Pictured here are the before pictures.

Hot Mitt Aprons

These aprons evolved from a need to make two aprons for the Swallows Charter Academy Chili Cook-off winners on October 22, 2010. The aprons I originally made were more feminine and a Halloween theme. I had an idea to make a chili pepper as the top of the apron from a placemat well when I got to the store no red placemats to be found. Go figure, right? Well I'm running out of time and I'm not sure that I would make it to the other stores so I thought and thought, looked and looked for some inspiration and ideas. I pulled to kitchen towels, 4 oven mitts, a tea towel as my idea formed in my head. I was hoping that it would evolve nicely in the making. With these types of projects you just never really know. LOL! So last night I slowly worked through my idea and finished the one apron, today I finished the second one. I do like how they turned out. I'm even thinking about making the pattern and selling the pattern to this apron. Pictured are several different angles so you ca...

Chili Cook-off Aprons

Image
The Swallows Charter Academy each year (since I can remember) has had a Chili Cook-off and the last several I have made the aprons for the winner of green and red chili. I usually do a chili pepper apron but this year I wanted to do something different. Each year they do this around Halloween so I thought I would put a different spin on the aprons. I hope that the coordinator Kelli Archuleta likes them. I thought they turned out cute. I will have to see what she says. Let me know your thoughts. The first apron shown is a child's apron I'm going to sell.

Jeans What Can You BE?

I took a pair of black jeans that my mom's friend Carolyn gave me to recreate with. Congratulations to Carolyn for losing a ton of weight and getting rid of all those big clothes. I made two purses, I cut out a bear pattern and I still have another section to make another purse. Wow, I think I used almost every inch of this pair of jeans. I also used old ties to embellish with and use for the shoulder straps. What do you think?
